Secretary of Health and Human Resources for the Commonwealth of Virginia William A. Hazel Jr. and his wife, Cindy, and Teresa Haller (right), president of the Virginia Nurses Foundation, congratulate Lora Peppard on her award.

Lora Peppard, associate professor of nursing, received the 2016 Leadership Excellence Award for Nurse Educators from the Virginia Nurses Foundation at their annual gala on September 24.

Nurse leaders from throughout Virginia are eligible for nomination for the awards. The award “recognizes nurses for their commitment to the advancement of nursing knowledge.” Peppard was selected for the award from 17 finalists in the nurse educator category.

“Dr. Peppard is a visionary leader in nursing education. In everything she does, it is with the attitude and belief that it will add to a student’s experience at Mason,” said Carol Urban, director of the School of Nursing. “She is committed to not only advancing students’ knowledge, but also the profession of nursing for years to come.”

Award recipients were selected based on their experience in “enhancing the image of professional nursing, providing service with respect for human dignity and the uniqueness of others, and promoting the scholarly activities and/or professional development of self and others.”
