The College of Public Health celebrates an important milestone with the launch of its 10th fully online program—Master of Public Health (MPH) with a concentration in Public Health Practice. Applications are now open for Mason’s online Master of Public Health program, and students can apply now through SOPHAS for fall 2023 entry.
“An MPH allows graduates to work in a wide range of careers that promote and improve public health to individuals and communities. Graduates apply evidenced-based approaches to public health, assess populations' needs, apply awareness of cultural values to implement public health policies and programs, integrate multiple perspectives to evaluate a program’s impact and advance public health, and so much more,” said Carolyn Drews-Botsch, Chair of the Department of Global and Community Health.
The online MPH brings the robust curriculum, developed and instructed by the renowned faculty from the Department of Global and Community Health, to a fully online format, with a concentration in Public Health Practice. A core of foundational public health coursework in essential topic areas like epidemiology, health program planning, health care systems, and public health management will equip students to address the most pressing and emerging health problems. All courses are designed and developed by interdisciplinary public health faculty of epidemiologists, biostatisticians, and social and behavioral health experts.
The Public Health Practice concentration examines the social and environmental factors that improve population and community health and trains students to apply evidence-based public health concepts to real-world problems. Mason’s online MPH in Public Health Practice is an online-only concentration and coursework is asynchronous, allowing students to work on their own time.
Online MPH courses are full-semester length, which is different from most of the other online programs. The full-length courses help public health students have enough time to absorb material and pace their coursework and learning experience. Most students earn their degree in 2.5–3 years, and up to 12 previously earned transfer credits are accepted.
Mason’s MPH degree is fully accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH), and all graduates are eligible to sit for the Certified in Public Health (CPH) examination.
